The Path of Greatest Resistance (for HTC Vive)
A downloadable game
The above trailer is for an experimental "jogging" mode, but there is also a seated mode.
We were always doomed, I guess. It's in people's nature to take the easy way out.
My grandpa told me the 2020's were a bloodbath. When machine learning got into people's hands, it was just too tempting. Why slave away to make a living, when you can download an AI, give it some instructions, and release it to do your bidding? Maybe it will make you a million dollars. Maybe it will kill a million people.
People knew the risk but they did it anyway. People always seem to take the path of least resistance.
It was a short time before mankind was wiped off the Earth. But some of my ancestors fled the planet. Now, the last of humanity hides among the rocky debris in the outskirts of our solar system.
We were safe for decades. But now they're here. The Machine Alliance has found us. Most of my colony wants to run away and hide, clinging to what's left of our lives as the machines pick us off bit by bit.
But I choose a different path.
About the Game
Hey everybody! This is the first game that I've ever released for sale. I hope you enjoy it.
It's a short made-for-VR game that currently has two modes: one is a "rails shooter" type game. The second mode is an experimental mode where you jog in place to move forward. The map is partially procedurally generated, so each time you play through it's a little different.
It's made for the HTC Vive.
Although I'm the only developer on this project, I relied a lot on the assets, sound effects, and music of others, as well as code by Epic Games and Unreal Engine. Credits
I don't plan to make this into a huge game, but I do hope to add some more "missions" and enemies. As of updating this, the game has 5 "missions," each that follow the same basic semi-procedural template with the biggest difference between them being which weapons you get. One of those missions is experimental.
The screenshots on this itch.io page are already out of date, because I enabled shadows for the game.
I also am thinking of re-using some of the stuff from this game in other future games. (People who bought this game wouldn't be eligible for free copies of the other games)
I recently added a EULA, to comply with requirements of the game engine.
The game was also released on Steam Early Access on July 12.
This Steam Early Access game is currently not a finished game and may or may not change significantly over the course of development. To learn more about Steam Early Access, please visit http://store.steampowered.com/earlyaccessfaq/
